Waffles are hands down one of the most popular sweet treats in the world. The ingredients themselves are so versatile, that they can be made into many different variations as long as you have a double hot metal waffle maker, regardless of type or size. It can also be served savory like a fried chicken and waffle dish.
Waffles come in different variations, and while most waffles require a similar list of ingredients and equipment to make, in this blog, the classic, but eggless, waffle will be discussed.
Let’s talk equipment
Making waffles is fairly easy, as long as you have a waffle maker machine or stovetop waffle maker. Different variations of waffles call for different types of equipment and are designed based on the style of the waffle as well as its ingredients. A classic waffle requires a standard waffle maker machine or a stovetop waffle maker.
The Batter
A classic waffle requires flour, baking powder, sugar, milk, butter, and vanilla extract. Eggs are often used in waffles, but for this DIY post, it is the eggless variety and therefore will be omitted. The measurements can depend on how many you’re making, so be sure to check up on recipes. Sometimes, other ingredients such as blueberries and chocolate chips are added to the batter to add some flavor to it. With that, ensure that the milk is warm and the butter is melted to ensure that the ingredients are well mixed together.
Once all the ingredients are well incorporated, pour some amount into the waffle maker and wait for a few minutes. Some waffle makers have their own timers, but it usually takes 4–6 minutes to cook, or a few minutes more if you prefer a crispier exterior. A stovetop waffle maker works differently and requires an occasional flip to ensure both sides cook evenly.
The Toppings
Available toppings can be all up to you, whether you want to utilize the ingredients in your fridge, or you want specific flavors for your waffle. There’s really no limitation when it comes to what toppings to add to your waffle. You can go from fruity toppings such as fresh blueberries, strawberries, bananas, and fruit sauces to more chocolatey toppings such as crumbled Oreo cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and hot fudge. You can even mix them up if you like.
Putting Them Together
This is the fun part – putting the waffles and toppings together. Here, let your imagination and creativity run wild as there are no limitations. This can be made as a great family or group activity as well, where toppings are laid out in bowls and each individual can get as creative as they want in what they want to add to their waffles.
